Preparation

Put ginger, horseradish, onion, garlic, lemon juice and zest, rosemary, oregano, and turmeric in a quart canning jar, covered apple cider vinegar and closed it airtight with plastic lid and liner. My jars are amber so I leave them on the counter, in the darkest corner, to remind me to shake daily. If using a clear glass jar, be sure to keep it in a dark place away from the sun. Heat and light will cause oxidation and possible mold. After 6 weeks strain and squeeze out all the goodness! Add more honey if you please and share with those you love!

I prefer to take about a tablespoon a day. If I feel like I am coming down with a cold I will take it every hour and add it in my soup.

Everyone I have shared the Fire Cider has really loved it! I I have put it in soup, made it into more of an oxymel for the kids by adding more honey,(they didn’t like it much, they are more elderberry fans) made a salad dressing out of it, added it to a Bloody Mary, and drank it straight out of the jar! My kids and I love to add new things to the recipe. Our house has maintained good health last season and doing well so far this season too! I give much of the credit to these wonderful herbs that have become part of our lifestyle! My favorite part about making Fire Cider or any herbal recipe is sharing it with everyone I can! I hope you get inspired and make some for yourself!

Look how beautifully turmeric colors the side in the bottom picture!
